How price guesses score
Each guess earns between 0 and 100 points. We measure the percentage distance from the recorded price, so the same percentage too high or too low scores equally.
The four bands
- Bullseye
- Within 5% of the price.
- Close guess
- Within 15%, beyond the Bullseye band.
- Warm
- Within 35%, beyond the Close band.
- Off
- Further than that.
Worked examples for a $10.00 product
| Guess | Distance | Band | Points |
|---|---|---|---|
| $10.00 | 0% | Bullseye | 100 |
| $10.50 | 5% | Bullseye | 99 |
| $11.00 | 10% | Close guess | 94 |
| $12.50 | 25% | Warm | 70 |
| $14.00 | 40% | Off | 40 |
The calculation
Distance = absolute value of (guess − price) ÷ price. Points = round(100 × exp(−(ln(2) ÷ 0.35²) × distance²)). An exact guess earns 100; a guess 35% away earns 50. Very distant guesses approach zero.
For a $10.00 product, $8.00 and $12.00 are both 20% away and score 80 points. These examples are calculated with the same scoring function the game uses.
Levels and daily streaks
Points add to XP. Your daily streak counts consecutive days you play, even if you make just one guess. Every seven days earns a streak freeze, with room for two; a freeze automatically covers a missed day. A daily streak is separate from the number of correct calls in Higher or lower.
